摘要

Low self-compassion and emotion dysregulation have been identified as key transdiagnostic factors in borderline personality disorder (BPD). To increase these capacities is a critical focus of dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Additionally, maladaptive interpersonal patterns are both core symptoms and contributing factors to BPD, and insecure adult attachment styles have been implicated in BPD symptoms. This study examined the indirect effects of emotion dysregulation and adult attachment on the relationship between self-compassion and BPD symptoms. We analyzed data from 79 treatment-seeking adults diagnosed with BPD. The results revealed a significant indirect effect of anxious attachment patterns on the mediating role of emotion dysregulation in the relationship between the self-kindness subfactor of self-compassion and BPD symptoms. We highlight the importance of assessing and addressing adult attachment patterns when targeting self-compassion and emotion regulation in BPD treatment.
