摘要

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a widely utilised intervention for treating various psychiatric disorders. This review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of CBT in treating depression and anxiety disorders amongst the Middle Eastern population. A comprehensive literature search was conducted. Twenty-eight studies were included in the final analysis. Effect sizes were calculated using Hedges’s g, and heterogeneity was assessed with the DerSimonian and Laird l2 statistic. The PRISMA flow diagram was used to assess inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results indicate that CBT is effective in reducing depression (g= -1.16, 95% CI[-1.72, -0.59], df=19, p < 0.001) and anxiety g=-2.26, 95% CI [-3.97, -0.54], df=15, anxiety: p = 0.01). These findings suggest that CBT is an effective treatment for depression and anxiety amongst individuals of Middle Eastern descent. Promoting awareness of CBT’s effectiveness in Middle Eastern countries could facilitate its quicker adaptation and broader implementation, potentially improving mental health outcomes in the region.
