<p>Source apportionment of particulate matter is an important method for analyzing the relationship between emission sources and environmental receptors, which provides important support for development and evaluation of control measures on air pollution. With the demand for emergency response to short-term heavy pollution processes, source analysis technique has been continuously improved on the basis of classical methods and developed toward online source apportionment. This study provides a historical overview of receptor model development, and focuses on application cases for real-time source apportionment of particulate matter based on the advancement of online measurement technology. Furthermore, this study offers a forward-looking perspective on the development of source analysis technique, which holds significant scientific value and serves for achieving more precise and sophisticated source apportionment of particulate matter in the future.</p>
