<p>There has been an extensive use of plastics in the packaging industry which at the same time raises disposal concerns and causes enormous environ- mental pollution. There are numerous biodegradable and recyclable materials found in our surrounding environment. The problem is the availability of widely accepted frameworks for the selection of biodegradable materials for use in product packaging purposes. Natural fibers, like jute, hemp, banana, coir, bamboo, and various leaves are comparably eco-friendly and can be used as plastic substitutes. For example, leaves may be used as an excellent packaging option for wrapping different raw and cooked food items. It is a considerably cheap, readily available, renewable, and environmentally friendly material. The use of leaves is not restricted to rural communities, but on several occasions, it gives an esteemed value in urban setups also. The presented re-view paper is an attempt to consoli- date the research made in the application of leaves for product packaging.</p>
