摘要

The article analyses the intergenerational change in religious practice in East German families against the background of secularisation processes in society as a whole. The focus is on the gradual loss of significance of Christian religion, which manifests itself both in the intra-familial transmission of elements of faith and in the decline of institutionalised practice. The qualitative study identifies three main patterns of this change over the course of generations: functional transmission, individualisation of religious convictions and substantial discontinuation. The article makes clear that secularisation is not a linear, uniform process. Rather, the interplay between the social marginalisation of religion and individual and family decisions creates plural paths of decoupling church and lifeworld.
