Editorial zur Special Section „Jüdische und antisemitismuskritische Bildung in Deutschland in (nicht)jüdischer Perspektive“

The Special Section “Jewish education and anti-Semitism-critical education in Germany from a (non‑)Jewish perspective” highlights two central lines of development in Jewish education and the associated (non‑)Jewish perspectives: the return of Jewish schools as an important part of Jewish pluralistic lifeworlds and religious education at state schools as a place of (inter)religious learning and anti-Semitism prevention education. The first three contributions on Jewish schools focus on the return of Jewish education after 1945 and deal with the founding, constitution and transformation of Jewish schools and religious education up to the present day, thus focusing on an area of self-organization and self-articulation of Jews, which is of great importance for the reconstruction and formation of their own lifeworlds as a Jewish minority. The following four contributions on religious education in state schools focus on the non-Jewish majority society and turn to Judaism as a subject of Christian, Islamic and cooperative religious education as well as the subject of values and norms, which is associated with expectations of knowledge transfer, the promotion of tolerance and the prevention of anti-Semitism. The Special Section thus presents recent interdisciplinary research on Jewish and anti-Semitism-critical education in Germany as a research field that will also be relevant in the future at the interface between contemporary Jewish research and education-related anti-Semitism research.
