<p>Plastic pollution is a global environmental problem recently. Moreover, existing linear economy has also worsened status of plastic pollution. Thus, controlling plastic pollution and transitioning from linear economy to circular economy are becoming urgent. Municipal solid waste management plays a fundamental role in plastic pollution control and transition to circular economy. This study aimed at understanding status of plastic leakage and clarifying reversed logistic system in Danang city, Vietnam. The waste flow diagram (WFD) and material flow analysis (MFA) based on principle of mass balance were applied in this study. Yearly unmanaged plastic waste was estimated at 2198 tonnes. The amount of plastic waste leaked into aquatic environment was estimated at 0.99&#xa0;kg/cap/year. Majority of unmanaged plastic waste mainly originated from uncollected waste (78.05% of total unmanaged plastic waste) and collection service (21.36% of total unmanaged plastic waste). Regarding informal reversed logistic system, itinerant buyers and waste pickers considerably contributed to recyclable waste recovery, collecting with about 69.34 tonnes (79.32% of total recovered recyclable waste) of recyclable material on a daily basis. Despite potential for circulation, other types of recyclable waste — glass, textile and leather, wood, as well as rubber — have not been widely collected for recovery. Results of this study offer scientific base for managers, policymakers, decision makers and related stakeholders of solid waste management system.</p>
