摘要

Purpose

This paper presents a method to determine the geomagnetic cutoff rigidity using data collected by the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS).

Methods

The geomagnetic cutoff rigidities are derived by fitting a transition function to the ratios of measured cosmic-ray event-rate spectra at different locations to the reference in regions with the lowest cutoff rigidities.

Results

The geomagnetic cutoff rigidities measured on a \(1^\circ \times 1^\circ \) 1 × 1 longitude–latitude grid are in good agreement with calculations based on the International Geomagnetic Reference Field (IGRF) model in regions with geomagnetic latitude \(|\theta _M |<30^{\circ }\) | θ M | < 30 . A year-by-year analysis reveals no pronounced temporal variation in the cutoff rigidity.

Conclusions

This method enables precise measurements of the geomagnetic cutoff rigidity directly from measured cosmic-ray data, without relying on geomagnetic-field models.
