However, certain complications associated with this technique remain poorly documented in the scientific literature, including the development of pyogenic granulomas at surgical wound sites following laser excision.</p> Aim <p>To present two clinical cases of such lesions after excision of oral lesions with diode lasers, and to describe this previously unreported complication.</p> Case Report <p>This article reports two clinical cases of pyogenic granulomas arising as a complication after excision of tongue leukoplakias using a Thera Lase Surgery<sup>®</sup> diode laser (DMC Equipamentos, São Carlos, Brazil), by the same surgeon with the following parameters: 2.5&#xa0;W output power, pulsatile mode (100&#xa0;Hz pulse rate), 980&#xa0;nm wavelength in the infrared emission range, the laser beam was delivered through a 400&#xa0;μm optical fiber initiated, and the energy level of 200–224&#xa0;J. The cases involved lesions located on the lateral borders of the tongue of a 67-year-old woman and a 36-year-old woman. In addition, the article discusses this potential adverse effect to raise awareness among clinicians.</p> Conclusion <p>Recognition of this occurrence (yet unreported in the literature) may help prevent diagnostic errors and inappropriate management.</p>

Introduction

Oral surgical procedures using high-power diode lasers have gained widespread acceptance due to their minimally invasive nature, clinical advantages, and improved postoperative comfort, often eliminating the need for sutures. However, certain complications associated with this technique remain poorly documented in the scientific literature, including the development of pyogenic granulomas at surgical wound sites following laser excision.

Aim

To present two clinical cases of such lesions after excision of oral lesions with diode lasers, and to describe this previously unreported complication.

Case Report
