摘要

This field study examines the impact of pedelecs on physiological loading among express delivery workers compared to conventional bicycles. Key parameters—work-related energy expenditure (AEU) and work heart rate (AHF)—are recorded during real delivery operations. During cycling, results indicate a significant reduction in loading when using pedelecs: mean AEU decreased from 23 kJ/min (bicycle) to 8 kJ/min (pedelec), and AHF from 72 to 42 bpm. When extrapolated to an eight-hour shift, this corresponds to a reduction in workload classification from “heavy” to “light.”.

Practical Relevance: For delivery service providers, pedelecs offer an effective way to reduce physiological loading on employees.
