摘要

In the skilled crafts sector, which is predominantly characterised by small businesses, physical stress and strain dominate, leading to high risks of chronic musculoskeletal diseases, frequent periods of sick leave and premature incapacity to work, particularly among older employees. Based on qualitative surveys (interviews, work shadowing) in various branches of the Bremen skilled crafts sector, the following article provides an exemplary insight into the challenges and problems associated with chronic musculoskeletal disorders for employees and companies in the skilled crafts sector. In the context of the prevention chain, and with a view to ensuring employability through health-promoting workplace design, return-to-work management and rehabilitation, deficits and excessive demands, as well as interface problems with external support systems, can be observed in small craft businesses.

Practical Relevance: A deeper understanding of the prevention deficits and gaps in the craft sector can help to prevent chronic diseases and improve the situation of the craft sector and its attractiveness.
