<p>Documentation is a&#xa0;central task in professional care. It constitutes the basis for the planning, implementation and evaluation of the care process, supports interdisciplinary communication and fulfils legal and quality assurance functions. Digital care documentation systems (dPdok) are designed to support this task. This article analyzes the empirical evidence currently available on the consequences of the use of dPdok for nursing care. As part of an umbrella review, a&#xa0;systematic literature search was carried out for systematic reviews in eight scientific databases and five journals from the nursing and healthcare sector (search period: 01/2010–05/2024). The findings were thematically categorized according to three topics (nursing tasks, work processes, job demands) and classified according to effect direction. Due to the high heterogeneity of the included reviews, a&#xa0;narrative, descriptive synthesis was carried out. The results show heterogeneous findings on the effects of the dPdok. From an occupational safety and health perspective, there is a&#xa0;considerable need for a&#xa0;socio-technical system approach when implementing dPdok—particularly with regard to the holistic mapping of work processes and job-related demands.</p><p><i>Practical relevance:</i> The results reveal the value and need for a&#xa0;systemic approach to the introduction and utilization of the dPdok. This approach can help to implement dPdok in a&#xa0;human-centered and sustainable way.</p>
