<p>In vapour compressor refrigeration (VCR) systems, the issue related to high energy consumption is addressed by adopting nanoparticles, while the use of environment degrading conventional refrigerants is resolved by utilizing eco-friendly hydrocarbon (HC) refrigerants. The present study investigates the impact of mono and hybrid nanoparticles dispersed in compressor lubricant polyolester (POE) oil on the performance of the retrofitted VCR system, using a low mass charge of eco-friendly HC R600a refrigerant. The two different types of nanoparticles such as titanium dioxide (TiO<sub>2</sub>) and silicon dioxide (SiO<sub>2</sub>) in two mono forms (100:0 and 0:100) and three hybrid forms (80:20, 20:80, and 50:50) were dispersed in the compressor base lubricant and utilized as mono and hybrid stable nano-lubricants, respectively with the main aim of enhancing the performance of the VCR system. An improvement in coefficient of performance (COP) was observed with the enhancement of the refrigeration effect of the system and reduction in power consumption by the compressor. The viscosity and thermal conductivity measurement tests of each lubricant sample at different temperatures have been conducted to analyze their effect on the system performance enhancement. Overall, the hybrid ratio of 80:20 in the TiO<sub>2</sub>:SiO<sub>2</sub> prepared nano-lubricant sample showed a better performance than the base lubricant and the rest of the prepared nano-lubricant samples. However, one of the hybrid nano-lubricant samples prepared with 50:50 proportions of TiO<sub>2</sub>:SiO<sub>2</sub> nanoparticles performed weaker than TiO<sub>2</sub> nanoparticles based mono nano-lubricant.</p>
