DAT Jacket: Design and Technology Development of Smart Jacket for Outdoor Motorcyclists

Average temperatures in Thailand span from 19 to 38 °C across the nation, with a recurring upward trend each year. This climatic pattern poses a pronounced challenge for motorcyclists who grapple with the adversities of weather-induced heat. Recognizing the paramount significance of this issue, the researchers embarked on an endeavor to devise a pioneering solution. The outcome of this endeavor materialized as the innovative "Denim Airfree T-Jacket" (DAT jacket) and the accompanying "DAT application," collectively engineered to alleviate the predicaments faced by motorcyclists. By meticulously engaging with the target demographic, encompassing individuals aged between 20 and 40 who frequently navigate Thai roads on motorcycles, a product prototype was meticulously cultivated. In-depth interviews conducted while employing the prototype unveiled invaluable insights into the genuine needs of these riders, subsequently guiding the iterative development process. The outcomes illuminated that among the 14 motorcyclists engaged in daily commuting, the affliction of riding in sweltering conditions was a recurring issue. The introduction of the DAT jacket garnered genuine interest, promising solutions to their discomfort. This initial interaction allowed us to glean essential feedback, which was thoughtfully incorporated to enhance the prototype. Subsequent refinement incorporated elements such as carbon fiber fabrics for heightened safety, along with further functionality adaptations attuned to user preferences. These modifications were then subjected to rigorous scrutiny through conclusive interviews with our target participants. The culmination of this iterative process yielded final prototypes that robustly tackled the identified pain points, amplifying the appeal of the DAT jacket and rendering it an attractive proposition for purchase.
