<p>For Germany’s energy transition to be succesful, sound approval procedures are pivotal. Data show a&#xa0;recent trend of acceleration. Despite universal legal frameworks local procedures vary greatly in terms of efficiency, however. Why is that? The article draws on expert interviews in four municipalities. Empirical results hint at staff size, administrative procedures, collaborative practices, as well as local party politics. Those insights into local differences can help to improve the way approval procedures are implemented.</p>
