Der Einfluss von Skandalen auf die Bewertung der Kanzlerkandidatin der Grünen und der Kanzlerkandidaten von SPD und CDU bei der Bundestagswahl 2021
摘要
The 2021 German federal election was characterized by a unique starting point: for the first time, no incumbent was running for re-election, so the candidates for chancellor were in the spotlight. The campaign was also overshadowed by several scandals, which had a significant impact on the popularity of the candidates. In particular, Annalena Baerbock (Alliance 90/The Greens) and Armin Laschet (CDU) came under pressure from negative media coverage, which ultimately benefited Olaf Scholz (SPD). Using the Politbarometer data, we examine the changes in attitudes from the theoretical perspective of “motivated reasoning”, where we consider the scandals as stimuli of a natural experiment. We find that partisanship has a moderating effect on the perception of scandals. Supporters of the parties concerned react less strongly to the negative events. However, no gender-specific immunization effect can be identified. The effect of political interest appears to be inconsistent and varies across parties.
