In September 2024, state elections were held in three eastern German states. On September 1, 2024, citizens in Saxony and Thuringia were called to vote a new state parliament. Three weeks later, on September 22, 2024, the election in Brandenburg took place. Following these elections, the parties are faced with the challenge of forming coalitions that can ensure stable governments while not compromising their core principles and existing decisions regarding collaboration with certain parties. Given the situation, the question arises as to whether alternative governing models, such as a minority government, might offer a possible solution for one, two or even all three of the states.
