<p>The use of pesticides in agriculture to control insect pest populations and increase crop yields is one of the factors that cause the significant decline in global biodiversity along with other numerous variables. Here, we provide a review of different key findings and insights on how entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) might be used as a green pest control tool to combat the voracious insect pest <i>Spodoptera</i> spp. which feed on plants belonging to Solanaceae, Brassicaceae, Cucurbitaceae, Poaceae, Fabaceae, and Malvaceae families. Insecticides are applied in bulk by farmers worldwide to manage the population of this pest. The uncontrolled use of conventional insecticides results in problems like pest resurgence in the field, insect resistance, environmental pollution, and human health hazards. An increase in resistance against insecticides resulted in the need to develop eco-friendly management strategies. EPNs act as an insect pest’s population regulator of soil-dwelling stages and have been used as bio-agent against many insect pests. Earlier, their formulations were developed using calcium alginate granules to restore their long-term storage and conserve the infectivity but now with advancement in technology improvised version such as Hiltpod-alginate capsules to wrapped infected insect cadavers are being utilized. In future, researcher must explore the safer material, better mechanics and modeling system to develop a more successful commercial EPN product. A development of optimal micro-structured storage and transportation systems is a practical necessity for its viable field application and cost effectiveness. Also, one needs to have a better understanding of their biology and physiology and soil ecology. The socioeconomic, cultural, and technological perspectives that hamper the farmers from adopting EPN technology for extensive control of agricultural pests are also one among the important factors to be taken into consideration. </p>
