Intolerance of Uncertainty and Future Anxiety: The Serial Mediation Roles of Digital Risk Perception and AI Anxiety Among Turkish Adults
摘要
In the age of AI, when digital risks are increasing, this study aims to clarify the serial mediating roles of digital risk perception and AI anxiety in the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and future anxiety among Turkish adults. In the current AI era, which is characterised by considerable ambiguity, examining the roles of digital risk perception and AI anxiety may be crucial for understanding and alleviating future anxiety. The present study aimed to examine the mediating roles of digital risk perception and AI-related anxiety in the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and future anxiety. The sample comprised 494 participants aged between 18 and 63 years. The participants are Turkish adults, the majority of whom are university students. Mediation analysis was performed using the PROCESS macro. The findings revealed the sequential mediating roles of digital risk perception and AI anxiety in the association between intolerance of uncertainty and future anxiety. These results indicate that intolerance of uncertainty was associated with greater future anxiety, partly through elevated digital risk perception and AI anxiety. Accordingly, these results suggest that strategies aiming to alleviate future anxiety by addressing intolerance of uncertainty may need to take into account digital risk perception and AI anxiety.
