摘要

Despite an exponential increase in usage, the average behavioral health practitioner’s (e.g., psychiatrist, psychologist, social work, counselor) knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) remains limited. This is compounded by fragmentation of information across different literatures. In efforts to bridge the gap between complex discussions and direct application, the current manuscript is designed to act as a primer to educate behavioral health practitioners on the uses of AI in clinical practice. Following the defining of AI, ethical considerations and competencies are discussed. Benefits and limitations of usage are then detailed before guidance is provided on what behavioral health practitioners should consider when select an AI platform in one’s practice. Finally, legal considerations and next steps for behavioral health practitioners are outlined.
