Examination of Psychometric Properties of the Persian Version of the Internet Communication Disorder Scale
摘要
Internet Communication Disorder (ICD) has recently gained significant research attention as a specific form of Internet use disorder. As such, having appropriate tools to measure this phenomenon is crucial. This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the ICD scale.Following a double translation process, the Persian version of the scale was administered to 314 students from universities in Tehran. Reliability was assessed using internal consistency and test-retest methods. Construct validity was examined through factor analysis, while criterion validity was evaluated using the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale, the short version of the Problematic Internet Use Scale, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS 21 and Amos 24.Confirmatory factor analysis supported the two-factor structure of the original version. Positive correlations were observed between ICD and Social Media Addiction (0.81) as well as Problematic Internet Use (0.83). A negative correlation with the Satisfaction with Life Scale (0.26) provided further evidence of its criterion validity. Both Cronbach’s Alpha (0.87 for the overall scale, 0.82 for the craving subscale, and 0.80 for the loss of control subscale) and McDonald’s Omega (0.87 for the overall, 0.82 for the craving, and 0.81 for the loss of control) indicated good internal consistency. The test-retest reliability coefficients were also desirable for the overall scale (0.79) and the subscales (0.48 for craving and 0.89 for loss of control). The Persian version of the Internet Communication Disorder Scale demonstrates acceptable psychometric properties in the Iranian community and is suitable for use in both research and clinical settings.
