摘要

Neglected by scholars, self-announcements became a widespread type of text from the mid-18th century onwards. While their distribution is naturally linked to the media system of periodicals, the thematic recurrence of the work description and the dominant appeal function speak in favour of viewing the author’s announcement as a text typology. In harmony with the publisher, the author advertises his own work, appeals to subscribers and explains the meaning and intention of his work. Strategies of self-staging thus come to the fore. The practice of adverts (both with regard to individual works and in relation to the published editions of works) is renewed and transformed in Goethe’s work: his example can be used to illustrate the diversity of the text type.
