<p>This article examines the acceptance speech as a&#xa0;textual type and analyzes it as a&#xa0;marginal genre of epidemic rhetoric. In this context, acceptance speeches prove to be performative stagings of literary identity and social values. Based on the speeches by Terézia Mora (<i>German Book Prize</i> <CitationRef CitationID="CR1">2013</CitationRef>) and Saša Stanišić (<i>German Book Prize</i> <CitationRef CitationID="CR2">2019</CitationRef>) at the <i>German Book Prize</i> the study focuses on the lexical, syntactic and pragmatic strategies the authors use. While Mora chooses an ironic-narrative approach, Stanišić uses his speech as a&#xa0;political statement. The study shows that acceptance speeches function as hybrid text types that oscillate between ritual, individual reflection and social positioning.</p>
