Starting from the controversy between Emil Staiger and Martin Heidegger over the interpretation of the verb scheinen in the last line of Mörike’s poem Auf eine Lampe, which results from a different understanding of hermeneutics as a technique and method of interpreting the meaning of individual literary texts or as a universal theory of interpreting literary works of art, the work focuses on the interpretative potential of a text-linguistically oriented method of analysing poetic texts.
