Pandemie und Diskurs. Die Spanische Grippe im Jahr 1918 als Diskursgegenstand in der deutschen und ungarischen Presse
摘要
This article investigates the discursive negotiation of the Spanish flu, the worst influenza pandemic in known human history, in the press in the German Reich and the Hungarian half of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The pandemic emergency was contextualized differently in the two countries studied, which can be explained on the one hand by differences in the social and political situation of the two countries, and on the other hand by idiomatic differences between the two languages, which have a relevant impact on the processes of perception. With the help of the method of word compound analysis, interpretative processes are uncovered through which complex semiotic units are recognized in the concatenation of linguistic signs, which in turn exert a decisive influence on social perception.
