<p>At the end of 2022, Elfriede Jelinek published <i>Angabe der Person</i>, her first printed prose text since 2000. Accordingly, this publication received a&#xa0;great deal of attention. It was prompted by a&#xa0;tax investigation against the author, which is reflected in Jelinek’s text by references to current financial scandals. More attention in the reception was paid to the author’s remarks (though relatively brief in scope) about the Jewish relatives on her father’s side. In this article, Jelinek’s statements are supplemented by further quotations on this topic by her and other authors, and the reception of the book is discussed. As addition, various archival and historical sources are consulted and relevant locations are visited. It is shown that Elfriede Jelinek’s statements are often misleading, especially with regard to the fate of her (alleged) relatives during the Nazi era. Based on this, the relationship between fact and (auto-)fiction in the author’s work is discussed with reference to the »Wilkomirski case« of 1998, in which Elfriede Jelinek also played a&#xa0;role.</p>
