<p>This study presents initial observations on the fishing patterns of the species <i>Cyprinus carpio</i> in Oubeira Lake, located in El Kala National Park in northeast Algeria. It aims to estimate the key dynamic parameters of the <i>C. carpio</i> population and assess the stock status of the species, with the goal of contributing to the sustainable management of its exploitation, given its growing importance in Algeria’s inland fisheries. Between October 2021 and March 2023, a comprehensive examination was conducted on a total of 548 fish specimens. The analyses were based on mean length-at-age data using FiSAT II software. The measurements of <i>C. carpio</i> varied between 18&#xa0;cm and 47.40&#xa0;cm. The duration of longevity was six years. The parameters of the von Bertalanffy growth curve are as follows: the asymptotic length (TL<sub>∞</sub>) is 52.39&#xa0;cm, the growth coefficient (K) is 0.29 yr<sup>−1</sup>, the theoretical age at length zero (t<sub>0</sub>) is − 0.152 year, and the growth performance index (<InlineEquation ID="IEq1"> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(\:\phi\:{\prime\:}\)</EquationSource> </InlineEquation>) is 2.90. The length-weight relationship exhibited an isometric growth pattern, as evidenced by a ‘b’ value of 2.95. The Z, M, and F values for total, natural, and fishing mortality rates were determined to be 1.14, 0.59, and 0.55 yr<sup>−1</sup>, respectively. The current exploitation ratio (E) was calculated to be 0.48, which is lower than the maximum sustainable yield (E<sub>max</sub>) of 0.59. These findings indicate that <i>C. carpio</i> is not currently overexploited. They nonetheless underscore the importance of regular monitoring and appropriate management to support the sustainable use of this resource over time.</p>
