<p>Shrimp farming regions of Bangladesh are highly vulnerable to natural disasters like cyclones due to their geographical location. This study aimed to investigate the impact of Cyclone Sitrang on shrimp farming in a sub-district of Satkhira district of southwest Bangladesh, the epicenter of Sitrang. The research focused on 58 shrimp farms directly affected by the cyclone, with data collected between December 2022 and January 2023. A structured questionnaire was used to assess the demographic, economic, and disease burden following clinical sign (from possible environmental disruption) impacts of Cyclone Sitrang on shrimp farming and the local farming community. Results indicate that Cyclone Sitrang significantly reduced the profitability of both primary species (<i>Penaeus monodon</i>) and co-cultured secondary species (<i>Catla catla</i>, <i>Labeo rohita</i>, <i>Oreochromis mossambicus</i>, <i>Labeo boga</i>,<i> Lates calcarifer</i>, <i>Chelon subviridis</i>, <i>Ctenopharyngodon Idella</i>, <i>Macrobrachium rosenbergii</i>), primarily due to disruptions in local supply chains and transportation networks. In the wake of Cyclone Sitrang, shrimp farms of various sizes have significantly increased their seasonal employment to address infrastructural damage while retaining permanent staffing levels. This has resulted in a notable rise in the number of seasonal workers: small farms by 352%, medium farms by 227%, and large farms by 556%, leading to an overall average increase of 396%. From financial perspective, cyclone Sitrang impacted both non-fixed costs (slightly increased) and net income (significantly decreased) for small, medium, and large farms in the post-Sitrang period. The benefit-cost ratio (BCR) declined significantly across all farm sizes, indicating reduced financial variability of shrimp farming post-Sitrang. Farmers reported increased incidences of shrimp disease including white spots, yellow discolouration and shell abnormalities, likely exacerbated by the Cyclone. These health issues further disrupted farm operations and financial outcomes. These findings highlight the vulnerability of the shrimp farming industry in Bangladesh to cyclones and underscore the need for strategies to enhance resilience.</p>
