<p>The present study was conducted along the southeast coast of Tamil Nadu between 2022 and 2023, focusing on the species <i>Metapenaeopsis andamanensis</i>. The catch per unit effort (CPUE) was estimated at 0.517, with a maximum sustainable yield (MSY) of 62,832&#xa0;kg and a Fmsy value of 23,056&#xa0;kg. Diet composition analysis revealed that the predominant food item was left digestive material (31%), followed by detritus (29%) and copepods (20%). The observed size range was 4.0–13.5&#xa0;cm for females and 4.0–11.5&#xa0;cm for males. The overall sex ratio (male to female) was recorded as 1:1.3. Peak spawning activity occurred during March–April and October–November. The size at first maturity was 5.5&#xa0;cm for males and 6.5&#xa0;cm for females. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) for females ranged from 0.62 to 3.82. The species exhibited a relative fecundity ranging from 41,426 to 112,531 eggs per female. Growth parameters estimated using the von Bertalanffy growth function included an asymptotic length (L∞) of 19.21&#xa0;cm, a growth coefficient (K) of 0.392 per year, and a theoretical age at zero length (t₀) of -0.46 years. The growth performance index (<sup>ϕ</sup>) was calculated as 2.46, with an M/K ratio of 1.15 and an L₅₀/L ∞ ratio of 0.473. Mortality estimates included a total mortality (Z) of 3.57, natural mortality (M) of 2.26, and fishing mortality (F) of 1.31, resulting in an exploitation rate (E) of 0.36. The length at which 50% of the population was vulnerable to capture was 8.95&#xa0;cm. Recruitment analysis indicated a peak in April, accounting for 16.05% of total recruitment. Based on the current findings, <i>M. andamanensis</i> is presently underexploited at the studied sampling stations, suggesting the potential for increased fishing pressure within sustainable limits.</p>
