<p><i>Timoides</i> Bigelow, 1904 an infrequently reported genus of hydrozoans, was geographically restricted to the Indo-Pacific Ocean until now. Here, we report the occurrence of <i>T.</i> cf. <i>agassizii</i> Bigelow, 1904 through citizen science, in the Caribbean waters of Cuba, providing the first record of the genus in the Atlantic Ocean. The taxonomy of <i>Timoides</i> is uncertain due to the scarcity of detailed morphological descriptions and available molecular data. Therefore, we provide a detailed morphological characterization of the Cuban <i>Timoides</i> based on the sighting of a living specimen. The taxonomic identity at genus level is unmistakable due to the presence of blindly ending centripetal canals, a distinct gastric peduncle with long manubrium, ribbon-shaped gonads, and four very long lancet-shaped lips at its distal part. Variations in the color patterns and the number of centripetal canals, together with the new geographic area, are concerns regarding the taxonomy of the Cuban population. In this sense, the nature of the present record must be clarified in order to define whether it represents an undescribed species for the region or an introduced one. Future perspectives for the taxonomy of <i>Timoides</i> include the description of the polyp stage and the molecular characterization of specimens from the different type localities. Only then can a comprehensive understanding of the group’s natural history and the region’s diversity be achieved.</p>
