<p>Otolith biometry is a useful tool for the identification of population characteristics. Relationships between fish size and otolith measures in common pandora, <i>Pagellus erythrinus</i> (Linnaeus, 1758), were analyzed in the Ligurian Sea and northern Tyrrhenian Sea. The analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test the differences between male and female otoliths, and between right and left otoliths; regression analysis was applied to describe relationship between otoliths morphometrics/shape indices and fish total length. The results revealed no statistically significant effect of the categorical factors sex and side on fish length and each otolith feature relationship. The relationships between fish total length and otolith length and width were fitted by means of a linear regression model, while the relationships between total length and other feature were described by means of an exponential model.</p>
