<p>This study aims to assess the effects of aqueous extracts from four wild plants, including <i>Polypodium vulgare</i> <b>(PV-AE</b>), <i>Chamaemelum nobile</i> (<b>CN-AE</b>), <i>Ocimum forsskaolii</i> Benth (<b>OF-AE</b>), and <i>Lavandula stoechas</i> (<b>LS-AE</b>), on the physiological health, metabolic responses, and milk yield and quality of dairy ewes. A total of 40 dairy ewes of the Sicilo-Sarde breed were treated for 75&#xa0;days with aqueous plant extracts at a dose of 10&#xa0;mL/day. Feed intake and body weight were measured, oxidative stress biomarkers were evaluated, and metabolism, liver activity, kidney function, and blood-related markers were assessed. Besides, milk production and composition were analyzed. Significant improvements in feed intake and body weight were observed in the treated groups. Similarly, metabolic, biochemical, and hematological parameters improved significantly, as evidenced by the modulation of lipid peroxidation, an increase in thiol-group level, and enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities. Added to that, electrolyte balance was regulated compared to the control group. Notably, the extract-enriched groups showed a significant increase in milk yield, along with higher milk fat, protein content, and total solids. Moreover, an improved lipid profile was observed, featuring a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids (C18:1, C18:2) and a reduced atherogenic index (AIh). In particular, <b>CN-AE</b> proved to be the most effective for the key parameters analyzed. Overall, this study concluded that incorporating aqueous extracts from the studied plants into ewe feed could serve as a natural alternative to chemical additives, promoting ewe health, enhancing dairy production, and supporting more sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices in the Mediterranean region.</p> Graphical abstract <p></p>
