A comparative study based on AHP and fuzzy logic approaches for landslide susceptibility zoning using a GIS-based multi-criteria decision analysis

This work discusses the effectiveness of the Analytical Hierarchy Process (T-AHP) and fuzzy logic approach (FL-AHP) for landslide susceptibility analysis and zoning based on the Landslide Susceptibility Index (LSI) in the prospective open-pit phosphate mining in Jabbeus Mountain (Tunisia). A third approach was established based on the Synergic fuzzy logic approach (SFL-AHP). The SFL-AHP expresses the synergy between the main criteria classes of lithology and the main factors classes, such as distance to faults and slope that can control it through the parametrization of the fuzzy functions. The results showed that the adopted methodology can effectively integrate various spatial data for landslide susceptibility analysis and zoning. Furthermore, the LSI from FL-AHP and SFL-AHP showed a clear pattern with the cohesion of sampling points, showing a smooth relation that creates a more gradual score in LSI. The SFL-AHP method is a promising tool for further applications, including the integration and interpretation stages of obtaining a decision–supporting layer.
