Synthesis and characterization of pure and carbon incorporated cds and ZnS semiconductor nanoparticles using Zephyranthes Citrina for the removal of methylene blue dye

Pure and carbon-doped Cadmium sulfide (CdS) and Zinc sulfide (ZnS) nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized. The carbon in the nanoparticles was obtained by carbonization of Zephyranthes citrina. The prepared nanomaterials were comprehensively characterised using XRD, EDX and SEM analysis. The stoichiometric composition of cadmium (78.6%) and sulphur (21.4%) in CdS NPs and zinc (65.41%) and sulphur (34.59%) in ZnS NPs were identified by EDX analysis. These findings affirmed the high purity of the CdS and ZnS NPs. The cubic crystal and cubic zinc blende structures were displayed in the XRD patterns of CdS and ZnS nanoparticles, respectively. The FE-SEM analysis showed the structural morphology of CdS and ZnS NPs. Under sunlight irradiation, the degradation experiments of 5% carbon doped CdS NPs and 20% carbon doped ZnS showed maximum degradation efficiency over other NPs for the removal of methylene blue. This study was conducted to develop potent photo-catalysts and validate a better analytical procedure for treatment water.
