Synthesis, characterization, and study of photocatalytic degradation of aniline blue dye using copper oxide nanoparticles prepared by Santa Maria feverfew leaf extract

The photocatalytic degradation of aniline blue dye by copper oxide nanoparticles (NPs) was analyzed under sunlight. Copper oxide NPs were synthesized by green synthesis using the Santa Maria leaf extract. The phases were identified by X-ray diffraction. The morphology of the material was observed by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and the elemental information was confirmed by Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The energy bandgap of the material was calculated from the Tauc plot using UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy data and was found 3.56 eV. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis was performed to identify the functional groups present. It has also been found that the particle size is between 20 and 80 nm (estimated using ImageJ software) with an average of 45 nm.
