摘要

This paper examines the trajectory of gender equality and justice in India, framed as a fundamental human rights issue, and analyses the ongoing challenges hindering its realisation. To this end, the article analyses significant legal milestones, including constitutional provisions, landmark Supreme Court decisions, and legislative measures to advance women’s rights and eliminate discrimination. Furthermore, it investigates the implementation and outcomes of laws addressing issues such as dowry, sexual harassment, and domestic violence, as well as the impact these laws have had on Indian society. The study argues that achieving true gender equality remains hindered by deeply rooted cultural norms, socioeconomic disparities, and inadequate enforcement mechanisms despite substantial legal progress. This paper contributes to the ongoing conversation about gender justice in India by critically examining the gap between legislative intent and social realities, highlighting the need for integrated approaches involving social work and further systemic reform.
