<p>This paper employs advanced data analysis techniques, including Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modeling, text mining, and Social Network Analysis (SNA), to explore the multifaceted global discourse on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as represented on Twitter. By analyzing a comprehensive dataset of 500,711 tweets and 714,794 retweets spanning from 2013 to 2021, we uncover key thematic patterns, including international trade, economic impact, and political influence. Our findings indicate that while international trade and infrastructure projects are central to the BRI narrative, significant public scrutiny also arises concerning debt sustainability, environmental risks, and geopolitical tensions. This study further highlights the influence of major international events, such as Belt and Road Cooperation Forums, in shaping global discourse. Through centrality and sentiment analysis, we further distinguish the nuanced roles that specific regions and actors, such as Africa, ASEAN, and Pakistan, play within this international dialogue. Through examining public sentiment and information flows, this research reveals complex, often polarized perceptions that have profound implications for the BRI’s global reception and long-term strategic impact. We offer recommendations for enhancing constructive engagement, transparency, and dialogue to mitigate risks and strengthen the initiative’s credibility. This study contributes to broader understanding of how global infrastructure projects are discussed, critiqued, and contested in the digital sphere, providing a template for future research on international development and geopolitical strategies.</p>
