Morphometric Analysis for Prioritizing Erosion-Prone Watersheds in Manjeera Using Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Techniques

Watershed morphologic features help identify key sub-watersheds for conservation and mitigation. Prioritizing watersheds based on their susceptibility to soil erosion and degradation is essential for effective resource management. Traditional methods are labor-intensive, but advancements in GIS and remote sensing have simplified the process. This study utilizes multi-spectral Landsat images, ASTER DEM, and ArcGIS morphometric tools to analyze the Manjeera River basin, a sub-watershed of the Godavari River prone to erosion and sedimentation. Nine sub-watersheds were assessed using morphometric parameters such as bifurcation ratio, drainage density, and channel management constants. Multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques, including TOPSIS, SAW, and COPRAS, were applied to rank erosion vulnerability. Sub-watershed 5 emerged as the most at-risk, requiring immediate soil and water conservation measures. The findings provide valuable insights for watershed management and conservation planning.
