摘要

This article introduces and explores a new generalization of the Pareto distribution, termed the polynomial Pareto distribution. The study derives various structural properties of this distribution, demonstrating that it exhibits heavy-tailed behavior and is part of the subexponential family of distributions. Characterizations of the polynomial Pareto distribution are also obtained. To estimate its parameters, the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) method is proposed and a simulation study is conducted to investigate the behavior of MLEs. The performance of this model is evaluated and compared with other well-known heavy-tailed distributions using two datasets: coal mining disaster data and failure time data.
