A PLS-SEM model for optimizing delhi metro blue line performance: integration of sustainability, infrastructure, and project management

The ability of urban metro infrastructure systems is essential for sustainable mobility, infrastructure growth and effective project management. The present research purposes to adopt partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) to study how key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational performance indicators (OPIs) interrelate to impact the performance of Delhi Metro’s Blue Line. By combining sustainability, infrastructure, and project management perceptions, it pursues to differentiate which service quality aspects most sturdily influence ridership and overall system efficiency. principal component analysis (PCA) was mainly adopt to identify suitable sub-factors from a big set of service-quality and operational measures. These components then considered in the PLS-SEM model, granting the research to calculate the interrelationships between service accessibility, connectivity, passenger ease, financial aspects and blue line performance (BLP). The analysis suggests that service accessibility, seamless connectivity, and passenger ease are statistically substantial indicators of BLP. It also features two critical impediments i.e. poor last-mile connectivity and disproportionately high fares for brief trips, together of which contribute to the failing ridership and revenue. Financial and economic indicators were found to have a negative imprint on the passenger gratification, underlining the need of fare restructuring. The conclusions offer actionable considerations for urban transit operators and stakeholders. Key recommendations include improving access/egress amenities, regulating fare structures to balance affordability with sustainability and developing onboard relief. This integrated, data-driven framework presents a dynamic roadmap for optimizing metro performance while supporting with broader sustainability and infrastructure development goals.
