Confluence of bibliographic study and experimental properties analysis of aggregates: a review
摘要
The construction industry makes a significant contribution to the economy, while simultaneously exerting a considerable negative impact on the environment due to its high consumption of natural resources. Aggregates constitute about 60 to 75% of concrete volume. As urbanization progresses, the construction industry grows, depleting natural resources by using natural aggregates (NA). Thus, it’s essential to explore sustainable alternative options to NA. Sustainable construction management includes methods like recycling and reusing materials, which mitigate the negative implications of the construction sector. These methodologies typically lead to a decrease in the quantity of waste generated by the construction sector. By reusing and recycling construction waste, we can attain sustainable development and minimize environmental impacts. This review paper highlights the comparative physico-mechanical properties of both recycled aggregates (RA) and artificial aggregates (AA), which are 2 potential sustainable alternatives to NA. A bibliometric analysis is conducted to identify gaps in the research concerning AA compared to RA. Furthermore, the paper examines current modifications in manufacturing processes, offering insights into advancements and potential areas for improvement. It concludes by proposing future research directions, emphasizing the significance of continued exploration and innovation in sustainable construction practices.
