<p>With an ever-increasing demand for better road connectivity and stricter environmental regulation policies, there is an urgent need to address the currently used road technology, i.e., hot mix asphalt, and shift towards more sustainable pavement construction and rehabilitation. Thus, the main objective of this state-of-the-art review paper is to understand one such approach, i.e., foam mix technology (FMT). The objective of this study is to analyze various foam mix technologies (water-based, water-containing, and alcohol-based) available to produce foamed bitumen (FB), the quality indicators corresponding to FB, components of foam mix asphalt (FMA) design, and their mechanical lab performances. This systematic review is expected to contribute to a comprehensive understanding of various ways to produce FMA and available gaps and help other interested researchers participate in this research line. FMT offers added advantages in terms of environmental and economic benefits by reducing energy consumption, fuel costs, and increased hauling distance.</p>
