Free surface simulation over broad crested weirs using VOF and SPH methods
摘要
In the present research, free surface of flow over Broad Crested Weirs (BCW) was simulated and analyzed based on Eulerian approach which is characterized by a mesh system, a combination of the Volume Of Fluid (VOF) method and Lagrangian approach, which is a mesh less particle scheme, a combunation of the Smoothed-particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method. Results of both selected methods were validated by experimental data and compared with each other, too. Analysis of results showed that in VOF method at H/Lcrest equal to 0.22, 0.139 and 0.06, Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) is equal to 0.15%, 0.06% and 0.14%, Mean Average Error (MAE) is equal to 0.14, 0.075 and 0.002 and R is equal to 0.98, 0.97 and 0.98, respectively. Whereas in SPH method at H/Lcrest equal to 0.22, 0.139 and 0.06, RMSE is equal to 0.20%, 0.13% and 0.19%, MAE is equal to 0.005, 0.002 and 0.002 and R is equal to 0.99, 0.99 and 0.90, respectively. Bias values for both methods also were analyzed and VOF method showed lower error values compared to SPH.
