Governance practices of large construction projects
摘要
Performance improvement of large construction projects in India has been a challenge in the recent past. Effective governance, from project inception to completion, can significantly mitigate this challenge. The present study, therefore, explored the critical performance-related issues encountered by owners of large construction projects in India and proposed solutions through project governance. This study proposed a novel governance framework, focusing on five key aspects: reliability and accountability, effective stakeholder management, reliable information collection and communication, legal and contractual expertise, and monitoring the risk management process. The study adopted a case study methodology, wherein qualitative data on governance mechanisms and critical performance issues were obtained from four large construction projects in India. Various governing practices, encompassing both common and unique approaches, were identified in the context of large construction projects. Critical performance issues were highlighted, and governance-based solutions were developed. The outcomes of this study aid in improving construction performance.
