Enhancing concrete properties through the utilization of steel slag as aggregate replacement
摘要
To address environmental issues and the depletion of natural resources in the building sector, this study explores the viability of employing steel slag can replace natural aggregates (NA) in concrete as a sustainable choice. This research investigates how concrete’s mechanical properties are affected by different steel slag replacement levels, including 30% fine aggregates (FA), 50% FA, 50% coarse aggregates (CA), 100% CA, and a 50% replacement of both FA and CA. After being cast, concrete cylinders underwent tests for Tensile Strength (TS) and Compressive Strength (CS) at seven and twenty-eight days. In comparison to the control mix, the results showed a 15% increase in CS and a 12% increase in TS in the case of 100% replacement of CA. According to these results, steel slag is a sustainable and viable alternative to NA in concrete, enhancing its performance and promoting environmentally friendly building practices. To lessen the environmental effects of the extraction of NA, the study emphasizes the possibility for steel slag to substitute conventional aggregates.
