Micro-mechanical modelling approach to study the influence of masonry strength on the failure of infilled reinforced concrete frames
摘要
The effect of masonry strength on the overall performance of Reinforced Concrete (RC) frames has been examined by considering three masonry types (Clay Brick, Solid Block, and Aerated Autoclaved Concrete) in this study. The frame is described as non-ductile according to Indian Standards. Results from the experimental investigation on masonry infilled non-ductile RC frames have been taken for the purpose of validation. The validation of the experimental result and the numerical study has been carried out using Abaqus software. The numerical analysis seeks to identify how masonry strength affects the performance of columns in multi-bay and multi-storey conditions. Specimens with two bays, in single storey, two storey and three storey, infilled with three types of masonry have been adopted. Shear force throughout the height of the column resulting from the infill was measured in all specimens to determine the shear demand on columns, thereby explaining the failure behavior. It has been noted that in multi-bay and multi-storey structures, the masonry strength does not affect the failure mode of the RC frame.
