<p>This paper provides a comprehensive review to critique recent developments in retrofitting of reinforced concrete (RC) slabs with fiberglass reinforced polymer (FRP) laminates. This paper identifies FRP systems where their effectiveness is measured by the reinforcement they offer on structural performance; notably flexural strength, shear strength and prevention of debonding. These asperities include the application of pre stressed and near surface mounted (NSM) FRP laminates, the mechanical anchoring systems, and novel adhesives. There are various materials that can enhance the performance of FRP which include nanomaterial and self-healing FRP and automation technology. However, it is highlighted that there is a lack of long-term durability studies, cost effectiveness assessment and the necessity of developing standards for this technology. The result indicates that FRP laminates are capable of providing a flexible and effective means by which deteriorated RC slabs can be restored to their optimum serviceable and safe condition without replacement of the existing construction material.</p>
