Buckling Behaviour and Design of Single Angle Compression Member with One Leg Bolted Connection
摘要
This paper demonstrates the design proposal for single angle compression member with one leg bolted connection with fixed end constraint provided on end of a gusset plate. Authors carried out test on five specimens of one bolt, single angle member to understand the buckling behaviour and failure patterns of single angle compression members. Experimental test results were validated with finite element analysis. Total 222 finite element models were then performed to form the formula for stress reduction factor which was shown to be related to non-dimensional slenderness parameter, buckling modes, material and geometric non linearity. Test results and finite element results were employed to check the adequacy of design specifications of Indian codes IS 800-2007 and IS 802-2016 and shortcoming in both codes was underlined. Comparisons showed that IS 800-2007 was conservative for non-slender members and IS 802-2016 was unsafe in most of the cases. New design equation is proposed to predict the stress reduction factor to calculate compression capacity of single angle compression member and are presented to establish good accuracy.
