Optimizing Concrete Performance: The Influence of Carbon Nanotube Dispersion Method
摘要
Nanomaterials are being used to enhance the fundamental properties of concrete. One of the most popular nanomaterials is carbon nanotubes (CNTs), which are used to enhance several properties of concrete, including mechanical strength, conductivity, piezoresistive responses sensing, and heat conduction. CNTs are very versatile materials with unique mechanical and physical properties. An even distribution of CNTs in the cement paste establishes an efficient conductive path in concrete. If enough interfacial adhesion between CNTs and the cement composite is established along with dispersion, then CNTs can impart significant reinforcement in concrete. This article presents a systematic methodology for evaluating Carbon Nanotube (CNT) properties and their impact on cementitious composites, focusing specifically on fabrication techniques relevant to structural health monitoring applications. The study includes the effects of different methods of dispersion, like mechanical and chemical, various fillers, like NiNF, CB, fly ash (FA), silica fume (SF), and CNF, the acid treatment, and the sequence of mixing. Results revealed that CNTs fabricated using proper methods provide up to 25%, 50%, 92%, 200%, and 25% changes in flexural strength, modulus of elasticity, compressive strength, conductivity, and resistivity properties, respectively. The fabrication process determines the characteristics of the cement-based sensor, which are thoroughly assessed in this study.
