Background <p>Ovarian<b>-</b>stimulating agents used in IVF medications may increase the risk of breast cancer (BC). This study provides a comprehensive review of all epidemiological research regarding the impact of IVF treatment on the incidence of BC in infertile women who have undergone IVF, along with related factors.</p> Methods and Materials <p>PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were searched extensively using keywords “breast cancer,” “in vitro fertilization,” and “IVF” until 2024. Duplicate articles were removed using EndNote X9, and studies were selected based on titles and abstracts, and then reviewed in full text.</p> Results <p>Of the 9605 identified studies, 27 were eligible. The findings showed conflicting results about the BC risk in IVF-treated women compared to the general population. Most studies suggested that the incidence of BC is similar to that of the general population, while some indicated a slight increase and others a decrease.</p> Conclusion <p>The results indicate a contradiction in the risk of developing BC among women undergoing IVF treatment compared to the general population. Factors commonly investigated include younger age, number of IVF cycles, BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations, being nulliparous, and the duration of follow-up. There is a need for more evidence across diverse populations to draw definitive conclusions.</p>

Background

Ovarian-stimulating agents used in IVF medications may increase the risk of breast cancer (BC).
